Hugh James, a top 100 law firm with a leading sports practice, has marked its expansion in central London with a move to larger City of London premises at 1 King’s Arms Yard.
The move reflects the firm’s continued growth and strategic focus on strengthening its presence across the business sector in the heart of London. The premium 7,500 square foot office has doubled the footprint of its previous city base since 2018, at 99 Gresham Street.
The news comes as the firm gains strong recognition in the legal directories, with its top tier recognition for Sport, bolstered by the acquisition of boutique firm Loosemores Solicitors, and the arrival of Partner Mark Loosemore who is ranked as a leading individual for Sport.
Mark joins Partner and Head of Corporate Commercial Gerallt Jones who leads a team of experienced lawyers representing governing bodies, individual athletes, clubs and brands across the UK. Strengthening the team’s expertise across an ever-growing sector, Partner Tracey Singlehurst-Ward has a significant focus on sports mandates, and continues to spearhead the firm’s work for the British Boxing Board of Control.
In recent announcements, Mark provided legal advice to his client the Football Association of Wales on the successful Euro 2028 bid. Speaking of growing the sports practice in London, he said: “Our new London office and our top tier recognition in the legal directories cement our reputation as a leading force in sports law across the UK. As we continue to grow our practice and the multidisciplinary service we offer our clients, securing a bigger London footprint supports our ambitious growth plans and our ongoing commitment to the sports sector.”
Head of Hugh James’ London office, Mark Harvey commented: “This is an exciting move marking what has been a strong last five-years for Hugh James in London. The continued growth reflects our exceptional legal talent and our growing client base in the City. From the new and improved office in 1 King’s Arms Yard, we look forward to enhancing the work we do for our existing clients and creating new opportunities for our people and communities.”
Hugh James now employs more than 700 staff, from the award-winning Cardiff Headquarters and offices in London, Manchester, Southampton and Plymouth. The firm’s ‘hybrid-working’ model continues to offer staff the flexibility to blend remote and in-office working each week, balancing the benefits of working from home and other Hugh James offices with the collaboration that comes from office interaction.
