Benny Bonsu is a pioneering leader in the sports industry, currently serving as the Director of
Content at Olympic Channel Services, a division of the International Olympic Committee
(Olympics.com). Renowned for her groundbreaking work, Benny previously led the
Women’s Sports Editorial team at GiveMeSportW, where she launched the first women’s-
only sports platform, significantly boosting the visibility of women’s sports in the UK and
globally. In the same year, she made history as the UK’s first female sports editor and the
first woman of colour to hold this role.
Her distinguished career spans sports business, broadcasting, and journalism, with
collaborations alongside high-profile organisations such as BBC, Sky Sports, NBA, NBA
Africa, Modern Times Group, LOCOG 2012, Basketball Africa League, and Alibaba. Benny
has made substantial contributions to premier sporting events including the Premier League,
NBA, NFL Africa, and the London 2012 Olympics, earning her widespread recognition for
her transformative impact on the sports media landscape.
Benny’s exceptional leadership has led to multiple nominations for prestigious awards such as
“Sports Leader Under 40 of the Year” and “Sportswoman of the Year.” She serves on the
boards of Basketball England, the Sports Journalists Association, and African Health Now,
where she champions diversity and supports emerging talent in the sports industry.
As a globally recognized advocate for gender equality and social change, Benny is a key
supporter of initiatives like the Global First Ladies Alliance, The END Fund, and, in 2019,
was named UNESCO’s Fit for Life Ambassador. Through her non-profit organization, the
Saint Benedict’s Foundation, she empowers young girls globally through sports, providing
them with equitable opportunities for growth and leadership.
In 2024, Benny was honoured as one of eight global thought leaders on gender equality by
UNESCO as part of their United Nations laboratory of ideas voices. She was also recognized
by the UK government during Black History Month as one of the most impactful Ghanaian
British leaders.
Benny is also the founder of the Institute of Sports Africa (ISA), an innovative initiative
designed to revolutionize sports leadership and workforce development across Africa. ISA
seeks to elevate the continent’s position in the global sports ecosystem by providing world-
class sports education, leadership training, and governance expertise. With strategic
partnerships with global sports organizations, universities, and governments, ISA is
committed to fostering a robust ecosystem that promotes gender equity, youth empowerment,
and leadership excellence in sports. Its vision is to become Africa’s premier sports training
and development hub, positioning the continent as a global sports powerhouse.
