Emily LeRoux and Mark Haviland among ISC 2020 speakers

The International Sports Convention (ISC) is pleased to announce Emily LeRoux and Mark Haviland as speakers for the 2020 edition taking place on June 17-18, 2020 at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London. Emily is the Global Partnerships, Spartan Women Leader for Spartan Race whilst Mark is EVP Brand Development and Sustainability at Rakuten. Rakuten is the main global partner for Spartan Race.

Spartan Race began as a spin-off of the “Death Race”, a 48-hour endurance event founded in 2004. Spartan was founded by Joe De Sena, intended as a more manageable endurance race for a wider audience. The first Spartan Race event was held in 2010 at the Catamount Outdoor Center in Williston, Vermont and represented the city of Burlington, Vermont. Roughly 500 competitors had to “run, crawl, jump and swim” and overcome a variety of obstacles. All finishers received a medal, and prizes were awarded to the top athletes.

In Japanese, Rakuten stands for ‘optimism’. For more than 20 years, Rakuten has been fueled by a mission to create a brighter future for the world.

Rakuten is a global leader in internet services that empower individuals, communities, businesses, and society. The company’s 70+ businesses span e-commerce, digital content, communications, and fintech, bringing the joy of discovery to nearly 1.3 billion members across the world.

Rakuten is Spartan’s official Global Innovation and “Powered-by” Partner. Calling and messaging app Rakuten Viber is Spartan’s official race-day communications channel, connecting racers from around the world to a global community of Spartans.

Rakuten will support and strengthen the Spartan community through innovative technology and services.

Rakuten, Inc. is Japanese electronic commerce and online retailing company based in Tokyo, founded in 1997 by Japanese businessman Hiroshi Mikitani. Its B2B2C e-commerce platform is the largest e-commerce site in Japan and among the world’s largest by sales.

Nigel Fletcher, CEO of the International Sports Convention: “I am delighted to welcome Emily and Mark who will be speaking in our sports events track of ISC London 2020. The sports event sector is changing constantly with new event concepts like Spartan Race targeting one’s own participation and the B2B sector for example. Brands and Sponsors are also key to this evolution and other brand partners of Spartan Race will be joining the panel discussion shortly. Mass participation events will be a key part of the Sports events track”.

The focus of ISC London 2020 is on the Business of Sport with around 1500 participants, including over 100 speakers with 7 sports business conferences, 3 masterclasses running over the 2 days, plus private roundtables and a range of hospitality and networking platforms.
